books and vestry books are the
record of the services held in the local church. They document the
basic information about the church's various sermons
and services.

The
books list the section of the Bible on which the sermon was based,
names the preacher (including office and diocese),
the number of people who attended the service, collection amounts,
and occasionally includes short notations about the weather or other
notable events which might have affected attendance figures. Preachers'
books and vestry books essentially detail the same information.
